Ever since quitting Instagram, I wanted to find a space where I could discuss wine in more detail without becoming a slave to my device. Substack feels like the right place, nice and analogue, allowing me to expand on random thoughts and hopefully interaction with my readers.
I want to provide advice, recommendations and general thoughts on everything in the wine world from glassware to recipes with wine and, of course, the liquid within the bottle (or bag!).
I have worked in the wine trade since 2016 and am still learning every day and I hope I can impart some of those learnings to you in an unpatronising way. Wine is a luxury, not something we need to survive, so it’s got to be fun!
I’m still finding my feet but my aim is to send out a monthly newsletter. Each newsletter will most likely focus on one topic but this will be a moveable feast and dictated by what you would like more of - so please let me know!
Hotline Grape is a feature that will allow you to ask me questions about wine, but more specifically about wine lists in restaurants. If you want some advice before you go out, let me know in the comments section and I will be your guide; your secret sommelier.
When it comes to recommending specific wines, I will try to make it as clear as possible why I’m recommending them. I can’t always cover all price points but my focus will be on bottles that I deem ‘good value for money’. For example, a bottle might cost £50 but I might see it as good value due to its provenance or production method. There’s also the topic of how much wine should cost when you factor in Duty & VAT but this exciting (!) topic is for another post. My recommendations will happen organically as I’m not made of money and I want them to be authentic rather than forced. Hopefully I can come at you with some wines that will surprise and delight and you should learn something along the way too.
Anything you want to see less or more of, please let me know as I want The Little Grape to work for you. Bear with me, this is a learning process for me too. If you can’t find the newsletter, please check your spam folder. You can also log in to Substack or download the app to see all the newsletters. Thanks again for reading and please share with people you think might enjoy it.
